Fire is the worst-case scenario going when you’re racing, for one reason: you have to stop the car before you can begin to escape. In between that first lick of flame and escape comes bringing the car to a halt, undoing belts and the window net, ditching the steering wheel, navigating through the jungle gym of cage bars, and somehow getting out of the car without looking like a cut-rate stuntman or worse, a human comet. We can crack jokes, but when all you see is fire and the ambient temperature is moving towards “broil”, leaving the scene is the first priority.
This scene went down at the Chi-Town King of the Streets event, and it was the Blain Brothers SN-95 Mustang that caught fire. An o-ring on one of the fuel injectors pushed out and all hell literally erupted from that moment forward. Driver Jake Blain managed to get the Mustang slowed down enough to get the hell out of the car, but the Mustang wasn’t done moving. It greeted both of the walls looking like the fire car scene from Christine before finally coming to a stop.
This is why you keep your driving gear up-to-date…Blain might have gotten a little warm, but he’s no worse for the wear!
Glad the driver got out ok. Kind of reminds me of the scene from Christine with the car driving along on fire.
BTW- Love the title of the article.
Im so glad he’s ok. I also can’t lie about having laughed at him running after the car. The Blains are awesome, and I’m sure they will be back very soon.
Wow, their emergency response team sucks.
