Historical Film: The 1969 U.S. Nationals At Indy…Nearly An Hour Of Footage From The Nats!

Woody Jordan sent us the link to the entire “Tournament of Champions” film on YouTube, and if there ever was anything that made me wish I was doing this gig in 1969, this is it. You have Steve Evans narrating, Dick Dale and the Del-tones providing background music, and one of the camera guys is Bud Lindemann, the host of the classic “Car and Track” show. How could you lose? All of the historic names in drag racing are here: Ronnie Sox, Dick Landy, Don Prudhomme, Tom McEwen, and tons others are here. You have Top Fuel, Funny Car, Super Stock, Gasser, Altereds. You even have Linda Vaughn on the trunk of an Oldsmobile…what more could you want? The smell of nitro coming out of the speakers?

If you haven’t seen this bit of drag racing footage, do yourself a favor and watch. Short of actually having attended the event, this is as good as it gets.
