Belive me or not, but the car below is related to a Chevrolet Chevette. That’s a Holden Gemini, a car only seen in the U.S. market as the “Buick Isuzu Opel” and only for a short period of time. Compared to the Chevette, the Gemini gives off a sporty, mid-1970s vibe…why I picture a similar-vintage Capri is beyond me, but the basics are here: a turbocharged Isuzu G200Z four-banger turbocharged to the moon and fed methanol is blasting out power figures that would shut up V8 howlers in seconds flat. Prior to it’s stint on the dragstrip, “Arrow” was a dyno competition car and has put down as much as 800 horsepower to the wheels. But owner Scott Forrester wanted to get out of the dyno game and take the Gemini racing, so the car is detuned down to a “reasonable” 500 horsepower. Yeah, because a 500-horsepower GM T-car is reasonable, right? This is the ego-killer, from the tiny commuter origins to the surprisingly grunty bark of the Isuzu mill when deep in the RPM range. This isn’t a car that is capable enough, or is looking tough. This Gemini is like the little guy in the bar that will go completely off his rocker at the first sign of trouble and will drop anybody who gets in his way. And remember…the run you are seeing here? The car has been de-tuned 300 horsepower or so. Wait until it gets dialed in…
these and the 4 door version have got quite a following in Australia…Gemmi’s see everything from V6 Commodore engines – theres even a kit available to bolt them in – to various V8’s but even in standard form they’re a good laugh
