7.0 @ 199 MPH: The “KING32” Skyline GT-R Is Out For Blood!

Nissan Skyline GT-Rs are the one of the best jokes the Japanese ever played on the world. What damage could a six-cylinder sports coupe do? Plenty. In stock form it was like any of the other bubble economy-era cars, like the 300ZX Twin Turbo, the Mitsubishi GTO and Toyota Supra: light on it’s feet, no-joke quick and claiming 276 official horsepower, even though everyone and their mother knew that was so far from reality that it was stupid to say it. But in the hands of gearheads…serious engineers and mechanics, racers who demanded more, and those who played on the roads around Tokyo at the darkest hours of the night…the BNR32 was so much more and could be so much more. Silly horsepower numbers are the name of the game here, and there is now a competition to see who has the fastest Skyline in the world. There’s plenty of wicked R35 GT-Rs that are running low numbers, but one R32 is right along with them.

Pushing 60 PSI of boost through any engine is a feat of engineering. Making a six cylinder crank out 1,700 plus horsepower while keeping the moving bits from exiting the program (and block) is borderline witchcraft. And planting all of that power down on a track in a four-wheel-drive car on Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials is borderline suicide. The impressive thing is that all of this comes together in a car that could theoretically hit the streets and cruise around. That’s the nuts part of the program. Watch this Skyline romp on the track, then imagine it on Rocky Mountain Race Week towing a small trailer through Cornfield, U.S.A.
