The Merrill Ice Drags have been going on since 1965 and bring out all kinds of ice racing craziness. But not every vehicle out there is a purpose built ice racer. In fact most of the cars, trucks, dragsters, etc are quite the opposite as they are average drag cars modified with spiked tires that have hundreds of drywall screws that bite the ice and provide traction. Seeing these things leave the starting line is a little like watching sand drags only a hell of a lot colder. And while seeing a wheelstand on the ice at the hit is pretty rare, a power wheelstand down track does occur on occasion.
These cars are nuts, not because the combos are weird or anything, but rather because they all have tires that look like some kind of medieval torture device. We’re talking bolts and screws and all kinds of bad assery going on.
