Money Can’t Buy Everything, Round Two: Ferrari Vs. Brown Wagon – Can A Diesel Volkswagen Maul A 458 Italia?

Oy, this one hurts me. On one hand, you have a pedestrian, ordinary station wagon that is more than able to whoop the ass of Ferrari’s 458, one of the most lauded super cars in recent memory. It is widely considered to be Ferrari when they are at their best. On the other hand, the pedestrian, ordinary station wagon is the bane of my automotive experience: a brown, diesel station wagon with a manual transmission. This Volkswagen Passat is reportedly packing a 1.8L diesel underneath the hood that is fed by a turbocharger that the owner acquired after selling their soul to the devil. This isn’t a fair fight, this isn’t even close. The Italia driver got his ass kicked, his pride kicked in, and about three years off of his life from the coal rollin’ VW. Ouch. We have to wonder if two men in suits from Ferrari will be at this guy’s door in the morning to collect the car…we hear that they are kind of picky when it comes to how their cars are portrayed.

I don’t know which I liked better -watching a souped up krautwagen wax an overpriced, Italian turd,, or reading your description of the debacle. Great video. Great, little piece of prose!
