You can’t blame a guy with a Lamborghini Aventador for being cocky…sure, it’s a 691 horsepower supercar that is more at home posing in front of a Las Vegas casino than it is doing any actual work, but when the loud pedal is hit, it will post some awesome figures: a 0-60 time that can dip below 3 seconds, a 10.8 quarter mile time, and a top speed somewhere near 218 miles an hour. If you decide to actually romp an Aventador (if you’re lucky enough to get behind the wheel of one) then you will learn in very short order that part of the Italian charm is the ability to scare the shit out of yourself by hitting the narrow pedal on the right. Hey, you paid for the privilege, use it! And the owner of this orange Lambo did just that, hauling it out to Bandimere Speedway in Colorado…but that’s about the end of where we can be nice about what happens next. He lines up next to a fairly serious 1965 Corvette, takes a nap at the wheel, and runs a time so off the mark that we are willing to bet that every street racer in the lanes were salivating at the chance to take on the latest and greatest from Sant’agata Bolognese. Even calculating for altitude, this Lambo didn’t get anywhere near the mark.
jesus that was sad…..might have the dollars but not much sense…..
Apples and oranges… let’s see the same two cars on a road course
He bumps ahead a few inches after the green which started the timers while he was still fixing his faux hawk. His dial was 11.79 which is probably right on considering the altitude, and lack of skill.
Don’t really get the reason for the hostility….this driver may be new to drag racing and learning the process, or maybe still getting used to the operation of the car’s launch control feature. A few more races to get a little practice, and he could easily be going rounds and ripping off those high-11’s very consistently. But no, the car’s a little different than what you’re used to seeing, so just mock the guy and turn him off from drag racing altogether.
And don’t give me any BS about the price of the Lamborghini being an automatic indicator of douchebaggery….there are dozens of guys in those pits with just as much or more cash tied up in their race car/trailer/tow rig setup.
Sure, this car may not be what you’d choose to drive, but we want the sport to grow, right? We should be a little more welcoming to new participants, I would think.
