Money No Object: 1970 Dodge Challenger – Nothing Like That Old-School Recipe

Money No Object: 1970 Dodge Challenger – Nothing Like That Old-School Recipe

In the world of Mopar, it doesn’t seem to get much better than a big-block E-body. The Dodge Challenger and Plymouth ‘Cuda have been desirable at least the entire duration of my life (read: early 1980s), mainly due to a reputation as a violent street machine when equipped with anything bigger than a 318 under the hood. From the scrappy 340 six-barrel homologation specials to the straight-up brutal Hemi and 440-6 machines, you really couldn’t lose with the engine choices. Unless you wanted the economy and durability of the Slant Six or simply cheaped out and stuck with the basic but trusty 318, whatever V8 you ordered would give you a thrill.

And that’s before the cars were even sold. Case in point: this 1970 Challenger is as far from stock as you could expect it to be. Wearing the T/A hood and sporting enough rubber out back to make anyone’s day, this Challenger is a reminder of what you could expect to see circa 1976: a used car that was just as much visual bark as it had bite underhood. A 440 lives under the hood now, which isn’t a stretch of the imagination, but this particular car started life as a well-optioned 383 two-barrel that was pushing 290 horsepower out on a good day. Now? It’s safe to assume that you will not be wanting for power unless your weekend car races in Top Fuel.

From the haunches to the clean interior, this is a Challenger that we’d be all over in half a second. All hail slot mags.
