(Words and Photos by Doug Gregory) My sons have helped me photograph events for as long as I have contributed to Bangshift and somewhat before. These days my youngest helps me out for a while at every event, but likes to spend most of his time back in the pits helping out SAM folks. That said, his shooting at the same time though from a different location gives a different perspective and his unique view of the action. Trying to sync all that with my photos has and still does present its challenges. Hopefully I got it right. We didn’t really get many photos as the racing lingered and we switched to just watching. Dave Diehl is the track photographer there and graciously allows us to shoot trackside. He does an excellent job of recording the multitude of events there and his work can be found at http://hyperperformancemotorsports.com.
I mentioned previously about Blew-By-You and it’s quick, but somewhat squirrely nature. The pass in this gallery my son captured that left front tire being carried nearly the length of the run only setting it down when the driver pedaled. Pretty good stuff if you ask me, but it’s not my fire suit that’ll need sent to the cleaners. The eventual winner of the night was Danny Mink in his dual-quad 409-powered ‘Gone with the wind’ Anglia that outlasted them all. Last season Danny had some success, but also was chasing a couple gremlins that nearly had him switch the combo to a SBC. We’re very glad he didn’t. In case you didn’t know Danny is the proprietor of Danny’s Rod Shop just outside Somerset, KY and his vendor rig can be seen at all kinds of gearhead events this side of the Mississippi. Check it out if you haven’t already.
Hope you enjoyed and look for more coverage of the Straight-Axle Mafia as we catch them at several tracks throughout the year.
Great photos and some great cars, thanks for the collection.
Old Yeller looks like a handful….
