Mr. Maniac: This Honda-Powered Toyota MR2 Just Can’t Keep The Front End Planted!

Mr. Maniac: This Honda-Powered Toyota MR2 Just Can’t Keep The Front End Planted!

Sometimes, you just have to root for the underdog, and when it comes to rowing your own drag racing, it doesn’t get much more underdog than a Toyota MR2, does it? Unless you showed up with a bone-stock Kia Rio, hoping your quick reaction time would be enough, the MR2 is pretty low on the list. It’s a corner carver, someone’s sunny-day sports car…what is it doing on the drag strip? This one has an answer: kicking as much ass as possible while screaming the whole way and yanking the front wheels off the ground about halfway down the course. It’s not Toyota powered, but instead a Honda K24 four-banger is putting in the work, turbocharged to the hilt. I say again: the engine you can find in a Honda CR-V is being force-fed air and is turning out power beyond belief and the soundtrack of a pissed-off hornet’s nest. And unlike most loud Honda products, this one rocks. How good is it? For the final race, it’s lined up against Ray Bulach’s six-speed Camaro. We’ve seen that blue monster at LS Fest, and there’s only one way to put it: it’s a bad son of a bitch, easily a low-8 second car, with Bulach rowing the gears with precision and aggression. Watching the MR2 fight that beast of a Camaro…worth it. Hit play below to watch that run go down!
