First of all, it’s awesome that fans took Hoonigan to task for not putting worthy opponents against Ken Block’s properly insane “Hoonicorn” Mustang. A purpose-built all-wheel-drive V8-powered monster meant to do just about everything possible required the proper challengers, and the last time the Hoonigans let the in-house mental patient play with others, it was a bloodbath. This time, however, things have been different: they’ve brought in some beasts, including a no-joke Pro Mod, and they’re letting Ken’s daughter Lia drive instead. Some have proven to have what it takes to put the Hoonicorn on the trailer. All have been a legitimate threat this time.
This match up, however, needed to happen. Brian King’s Oldsmobile has been iconic ever since it first showed up on the scene, ripping all four tires off in a chained-down driveway burnout. Since then, it’s only gotten better…and lighter, since Brian builds carbon-fiber parts for fun. A combination of 1982 Oldsmobile, TrailBlazer SS and raw imagination, on paper the Olds doesn’t stand a chance…it weighs about half a ton more than the Hoonicorn and gives up nearly 600 horsepower. That’s not insignificant. But what this Cutlass can do is convert noise to forward momentum in a way that even Block’s Nightmare has trouble doing. Launching from a dig, this Oldsmobile is deadly. But just how good is it against the master?
