With a density altitude that didn’t crest above sea level for most of the day (if at all), the OSCA Monster Mash event at Beech Bend offered up something for the drivers who made the decision to race: free horsepower. We’re talking -200 feet at the worst, over -1000 feet and more at the best. Was it cool? You bet it was…this is the first event of the year that I broke out a no-joke coat instead of a hoodie to wear!
No amount of brisk autumn air is going to stop racers who want to take a swipe at the tree on a sunny day. The cars were present in full force, from Junior Dragsters to Pro Street cars, no-time small tire cars, Unlimited Outlaws and all sorts of index racers. Regulars like the Pickering family, Matt Lunsford, and John Warren were out either exercising their rides or apparently helping test out a new setup (take note: the white Fox Mustang with the under-the-bumper zoomies).
It was a quick day at the track for myself, but for everyone who showed up and stuck around, it was the perfect setup for the racers. Check out the action!
