Outlaw Street Car Reunion V: Friday Was A Tough Row To Hoe, But The Racers Kept On

Friday was one of those days where everything seemed to be going wrong, but you just had to put your head down and push on if you wanted to survive it all. Ask anyone who happened to be at Beech Bend to watch the Outlaw Street Car Reunion V activities…name it, it happened: half-track oildown that ate up a good portion of Beech Bend’s kitty litter? Yep, that happened. Keith Haney turning his Pro Mod Camaro into a flying fireball at half-track? Oh, yeah, that certainly happened. Karri Anne Beebe’s 1968 Chevelle getting a very nasty case of concrete poisoning? That happened, and it’s a good thing that Scott Husted blew his tires off on the line, because he got his Mustang slowed down just in the nick of time before a bad thing became something worse. And just for a case of insult to injury, the sweeper tractor lost an entire hub assembly during a cleanup.

A tough day, for sure, but it wasn’t all bad. The sweet sixteen bump for the Mid-West Pro Mod series was hovering in the 3.86 second range and the class had grown nine additional entries for a total of 29 Pro Mods vying for the prize money, with Eddie Rogers’ 1969 Chevelle being chased by Jonas Aleshire’s 2006 Corvette. Haney was having better luck in Radial vs. The World, running 3.78@200 MPH, but he’s still playing catchup to Mark Micke’s 3.74@221 MPH rip down the strip. Brad Medlock’s Ford is running MX235 and Ron Rhodes’ Camaro is being chased by Jimmy Plimpton’s Fairmont in X275. The goal for Saturday’s racing is to wrap up the whole shindig before the weather goes sideways in Kentucky. We will have more to showcase, but for now, click on a photo below to check out more from Beech Bend!
