Carnage is NOT how you want to start off your week of racing at Sick Week, or any other event for that matter, but that’s exactly what plagued some racers on Day 1 of Sick Week 2026. Luckily for us, Kyle and the gang at 1320Video were on hand to catch all the racing action, good and bad! I’ve only had carnage that knocked me out of competition once in 21 years of Drag and Drives, but man it sucks. So I feel bad for the folks experience it this year.

Day 1 marked the first official day of racing at Gainesville Raceway for Sick Week 2026. After getting through testing and tech on Day 0, racers were back on the same surface, now chasing real numbers with points and the week on the line. The racing was strong early on, but the day took a turn late. Two of the three cars we thought had a real shot at running a 5 are already out. Goldstone, after grinding all day and bolting on a borrowed front end just to stay in it, ended up destroying it — bringing a tough end to what started as a great day of racing.
