St. Louis in early August is normally a massive sweatbox. The air is hot, rich with moisture from the Mississippi River, and you can actually watch me lose weight over the course of a weekend as I sweat like a slow-roasted pig over a fire. Don’t get me wrong…I love coming to the Anarchy Under The Arch events that SCSN throws down, because I’ve always been entertained by the high car counts and wild action that goes down, but the humidity…and the mosquitoes…can get to you over the weekend. Except, so far, the weekend has been surprisingly cool and temperate! Both Chad and I are on the ground for this one and the first thing we noticed is that even in the heat of the day…there really isn’t a “heat of the day”. The humidity is nice and tolerable, and once the sun goes down the temperatures are absolutely lovely. It’s a shame we can’t say a similar story for the flying blood-suckers, but whatever…

Thursday night was a test-and-tune session for SCSN, and the first round of qualifying for the classes. We will be honest…it wasn’t the smoothest go of things. From Mother Nature toying with everyone with minor rain showers that drove the track-prep folks at Total Venue Concepts bonkers, to the epic oildown that took out the left lane in it’s entirety, the evening session was a lesson in patience and humility. Though, we do want to give acknowledgement to the driver of the Nova who greased the track: there was a diaper on the car, so he blew up that bad, and he came out to help clean up…so don’t hang the poor guy in the comments, ok?

We will be live throughout the weekend, so hang with us and we will be bringing you more live coverage from SCSN at Gateway Motorsports Park! Meanwhile, click on a photo below to check out some of Thursday’s action:
