That’s Novel: This 11-Second Jeep Wrangler TJ Looks Pretty Much Stock…Minus The Turbocharged Barra Six!

It’s not that we haven’t seen fast Jeeps before…LSX Willys immediately springs to mind, as does the “Holy Toledo” Jeep funny car from back in the day. And that’s ignoring such wonder vehicles as the SRT Grand Cherokees we’ve seen rip the quarter to shreds or Greg Huizenga’s corner-carving, boosted Hemi-powered FSJ Cherokee that would embarrass legitimate sports cars, let alone a sports-utility with a purpose. But a TJ Wrangler? Normally, the only time we see a TJ is on the trails or tooling around town, lifted and kitted up, or death-wobbling down a backroad as some country boy realizes that he might have bit off a bit more than he could chew. By contrast, if it weren’t for the rubber at all four corners, one could confuse this Wrangler, soft top and all, as a beach bunny cruiser. Even the exhaust note wouldn’t be a giveaway…inline-six, right? It is, but the 4.0L mill that it came with from the factory is long gone, replaced with the Barra six yanked from a Ford product. Turbocharged and hooked to a manual trans, this little TJ is now something to behold, hiking up it’s front wheel in happiness as it tears down Sydney Dragway. It’s like it’s waiving to the crowd a little, isn’t it?
