The Buford Auto Summit is one cool event, and in the video below our friend Tommy Lee Byrd, aka the Hot Rod Hoarder, shows us all the cool stuff, and puts together a feature on the Dixie Twister Funny Car that was owned and driven by Huston Platt. This car is special, not just because it is a real deal OG nitro burning funny car, but also because it is powered by the venerable big block Chevrolet on nitro and there is nothing like it. While a nitro burning hemi might be the standard, the nitro burning big block Chevrolet sounds considerably nastier. You’ll see.

My favorite part of the day was seeing Huston Platt’s Dixie Twister funny car and hearing it run. The big block Chevy on nitro methane pounded the ground, and the restoration quality on this car is second to none. Although Huston Platt is mostly recognized for the terrible accident at Yellow River Drag Strip in Covington, Georgia, his Dixie Twister funny car continued to be popular.
