The LS1-Powered Lamborghini Jalpa Is Now Sporting Twin Turbochargers And Is Badder Than Ever!

One of my favorite LS-swapped cars in the world is this 1988 Lamborghini Jalpa from Australia. One of 410 produced, the Bertone-designed Italian’s 3.5L V8 was ditched in favor of the “most unoriginal engine swap ever” and the results have spoken for themselves over the years. Why desecrate a Lamborghini? Maybe the 3.5 was too far gone to save, or maybe the owner wanted a reliable platform that didn’t require learning Italian to understand the maintenance procedures on. Does it keep it’s supercar heritage intact? Hell no, but compared to the 255-horse lump that it came with, it certainly earns the title of a supercar. The LS, now a 383ci stroker, used to be supercharged, but recently the owner switched to a twin-turbo setup, using turbochargers taken off of Ford “Barra” 4.0L six cylinders. The system is pushing 14.5 PSI through the engine, which is still making enough power to cause worry over the modified Toyota Camry transaxle and driveshafts as the Lamborghini rips down the quarter. This footage is from it’s first runs after getting the hairdryers attached, where it ran a 9.96@143 MPH. Prior to the conversion, the Lambo was good for 9.7@135 MPH before, and according to Fullboost, the owner was taking it very easy when launching. Just wait until this sucker is dialed in…

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

A load of crap in a sexy skin is still a load of crap!

I’ll have a laugh when some IQ-challenged moron actually swaps an LS for another identical LS in a Chevy…

Geordie is right. another IQ challenged fool. chevy swaps are like using the same condom day after day. yuck!

Yeah, making lots of power easily is stupid. Why would anyone ever swap an LS? Its so lame. Cheating, lazy, uneducated morons taking the time to build fab mounts, swap parts, turbo plumbing, adequate cooling packages, fuel systems, etc…. How lame! They should have done all that same work with a different engine at twice the cost and half the support! That would have proven something!!

Get a life guys. The LS motor makes sense, deal with it.

nicely said. Hating on a brand or kind of motor for no other reason than its popular is utterly retarded.

I really quite wish to see the CAD diagrams for how they mated a Camry transaxle to the LSx – or how they determined that was the best choice. Very intriguing mashup! It makes me proud that an American pushrod engine can be the go-to powerplant for the most exotic applications, it’s a testament to good engineering.

Looks like it would make a better land racing car than a drag racing car. Properly gear it, and I could see that thing doing 200.

Too bad it doesn’t have a strong enough transaxle to support that much power. At buck forty +, it should be low 9’s- high 8’s.

    Sounds friggin awesome!
