FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Season Opener For Southeast Gassers Association Ready To Fire Up At South Georgia Motorsports Park

Adel, GA. 3/20/2025 – The biggest venue in the history of the Southeast Gassers Association for a points-earning event is to be the 2025 Spring Nationals presented by Harbin’s Mechanical season opener at South Georgia Motorsports Park this weekend March 21st & 22nd. The facility known as “The Home of Flying Cars” for literal air and those flying down the dragstrip with blistering elapsed times and miles per hour will now host the high-flying, gear-jamming, and nostalgia-portraying series that is SEGA.

“We do our homework,” states Raul Torres, track owner of South Georgia Motorsports Park. That homework regarding promotions becoming a part of the portfolio of great motorsports events at SGMP such as Lights Out and NHRA divisional drag racing. “If I were to predict… I think it’s going to be a big hit,” Mr. Torres said on SEGA Live referencing what he had seen in the quality of racing and the people involved with SEGA. Raul backs that prediction not just by feel but also by the buzz that SEGA has generated – “we have not stopped fielding calls and emails about SEGA. As far as Connecticut, Kentucky, Tennessee, folks are sure planning to come down.”

The Southeast Gassers Association is the premier gasser outfit in modern drag racing, being about a true revival of heads-up drivers driving action. It’s fitting for SEGA to race at a premiere facility such as South Georgia Motorsports Park. “I’m looking for big things,” Leslie Horne, SEGA owner, remarked on The NotBland Show, concerning the upcoming season opener. Leslie is a multi-time champion in SEGA and is the reigning A/Gas champion who has seen many tracks with his time in SEGA racing. When he looks at SGMP he sees it as the “biggest platform – venture,” for SEGA and taking the series to the next level in drag racing.

There is also an expectation, with the notorious nature of South Georgia Motorsports Park holding record performances, that SEGA records will be reset as well. The current A/Gas record holder is Leslie Horne at a 5.18 elapsed time in the 1/8th mile which SEGA races to. “I think we’ll tickle the 5.0s this year if not even the first race” Mr. Horne uttered, musing on the season opener. Leslie isn’t the only one aiming for an ET record though. Greg Stelse, driver of The Joker, in A/Gas also backs up his fellow competitor’s sentiments on the Competition Plus Power Hour – “all the cars should run very well. I think the record will get beat multiple times”. Greg, along with all in SEGA competition are ready to race at the premiere facility that is SGMP to set bests while wowing fans.

The categories in competition will be A/Gas, B/Gas, C/Gas, H/Gas, A/FX, and Super Stock. The early funny cars of A/FX and the little cars running four and six cylinders along with Volkswagens in H/Gas start their first ever championship season in SEGA. The expected car count is well over 70 cars to race for the trophies at the Spring Nationals presented by Harbin’s Mechanical. All the racing action on Friday night with testing and then qualifying into eliminations on Saturday is bolstered by a two-day swap meet.

On track action begins Friday at 5PM Eastern with testing and grudge racing. Saturday action for the SEGA Spring Nationals begins at 1PM Eastern. Each day, gates open at 8AM Eastern. Our mission is to bring back the authentic drag racing from the 1960’s and to put on a show the whole family will love. The 1960’s produced some of the most exciting times in drag racing history and we are doing our best to preserve those time at the track. Our cars represent the gassers of that era as closely as possible. This means exciting wheels up launches, drivers banging gears with their four speeds, as well as the car’s appearance while sitting in the pits.
