I’m convinced that eBay will, sooner or later, be the death of me, even more so than Craigslist. My wife rolls her eyes so hard when she sees me surfing these sites that I’m certain she has seen her own brain, but how can you help it when you find such cool rides like this 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix Model J? We love big bruisers here, and this is just begging for a new home.
The seller claims that the car was a 455-powered 10-second ride that was raced between the 1970s and the 1990s. He bought the car wanting to make a Pro Street car out of it, but that never materialized and now the car sits for sale, without running gear. The car is a bit rough from the sitting, but nothing that would be a walkaway deal for a decent price. In fact, the only part of the car I truly don’t like is the obnoxious Pro Street snout on the hood, but that’s a personal gripe. Currently the car is sitting on a set of Cragars that look to be off of a late ’70s street machine, which has my head spinning with this image of a ‘caged up Pontiac with one seriously massive big block under the hood, maybe with a blower out of the hood, the stinkbug stance done right and the ability to drive at current highway speeds…the anti-Pro Touring ride, if you will.
Currently the GP is sitting on eBay at a three-digit price, which is a steal. Even a a grand or two, this thing would be a great start for the build I have in mind. The interior could use a cleaning, there is some minor work to be done to make the car livable, and of course there’s the issue of the missing engine and trans…but what say you? Would you go for it or pass?

Loose the scoop, and a 454 with blower through the hole in the hood, and drive it..would be my plan 🙂
I don’t think I would want to buy an ex-drag car. Kind of like marrying an ex-porn star. Sure, she’s cleaned up since her wild days, but there are still plenty of scars under the skin and that body will never be tight again 😀
You, sir, owe me a muffin. The one I was eating for breakfast has to be cleaned off of the screen of my home computer now.
wow that’s a good way to put it. I like that
I’m fine with it, although it needs to lose the hood and the body-colored everything and keep the snotty 455.
twin turbo 6.0 LS motor and this thing will be the Big Prick again
Keep it Pontiac powered, in fact turbo it, loose the scoop, and re chrome what needs to be chromed.
My second car ever was a 69 GP SJ 428 and it was almost identical to this. Even black, Cragers and a Harewood scoop. Only thing that even compared, torque wise, was a 428 Mustang cobra jet. This car would be loads of fun with all the new goodies that are available today. Keep it all Poncho.
1970 Pontiac GP…are you really asking me…or is this a rehtorical question…I suspect you already know the answer AND you would know what I would do to it to fix it’s flaws….lets not ask ANGRYJOE anymore silly questions eh?
I’m not a Pontiac guy. I’ll pass. But there are some Pontiac guys that might like it.
