This C6 Z06 vs. Hellcat Charger Race Is A Quick Lesson In Power To Weight Ratio

In the right lane we have a C6 Corvette Z06. It isn’t anything to sneeze at, with 505 horsepower, 470 ft/lbs of torque, and a rev range that swings into the 7,000 RPM territory. It isn’t something to trifle with unless you are one of the more well-heeled members of the supercar set. It is just as happy in a straight line as it is making mincemeat out of whatever is put up against it at a track day. Weighing in at about 3,200 lbs, it’s not a flyweight car, but compared to the Hellcat Charger lined up in the left lane, it is. Sure, the Charger has the motor of the year, but the 4,560 lb. curb weight cripples the advantage.

Now, according to internet chatter, this footage was obtained at a Texas Speed Syndicate event, and if the discussion is to be believed, the Charger wasn’t playing fair with the rolling starts. We don’t know for sure…but all you need to know is that the horsepower figure isn’t everything when it comes to how fast your car is. Sure, the Dodge rolls hard off the line, but watch how well the Z06 reels him back in.

That’s hilarious. The Vette driver “sighs” at the start like he’s resigned to having his butt handed to him by the Charger, and then when he realizes his win, he gets all cocky! People are funny.

I learned that lesson when my Firebird drag car got whooped by a Damn VW Beetle. Turned out he had a really mean rotary turbo (13B I think). It was a good humbling for a kid with one of the baddest street cars in New Bern at the time.
