The best way to judge just how far along your project has come is to compare notes to an original, stock example of your ride. Case in point: a 13.2 second quarter mile for an Australian ride isn’t normally exemplarily. There are turbocharged six-cylinder sedans that can do better stock. But in the case of Phil Mizzi’s 1954 Volkswagen “single cab” Type 2, that is nothing short of a stunning achievement…especially when you dig back through the archives and find that a late 1950s bus would take 27 seconds to perform the same feat. Your ears might trick you into thinking that there is an old V8 in there, but that isn’t the case: according to a Street Machine article, the VW is powered by a 2,854cc flat-four based on an Autocraft block that is fitted with a Harrop HTV2300 supercharger. It’s kitted to be drivable for more than quarter-mile dashes and it looks as rough as all get-out…in other words, we like it!
Love these! I like that they left the rigging on the back.
the parachute on the back maybe a bit optimistic, but 117 mph is stout for 4 holes! Harder launch and some more gear and it has the potential for serious 11s.
That’s Grover!
