There’s no way to sugar-coat this kind of news…it sucks. We learned yesterday that Accelaquarter Raceway, a neat little eighth-mile joint in Harrisburg, Illinois has canceled out their 2019 season and is up for sale. The strip, which has had quite the story ever since Frank Sisk sank good money into revitalizing the track back in 2013. It’s flooded a couple of times (not unheard of for any track in Southern Illinois), and had been up for sale as recently as 2016.
Straight from the source:
“After a reevaluation of recent circumstances I have made the decision to step away from the opportunity of Track Operator at Accelaquarter Raceway.
It is my current understanding that the track will remain closed and that it is for sale. Frank asked that anyone seriously interested in purchasing the facility should contact him directly.
I will be returning all 2019 pit parking, advertising and sponsor payments this week.
I also made sure that Frank has a list and the tech cards of the racers involved at last years Oct. 13th rainout.
I sincerely hope that someone will see the potential of Accelaquarter Raceway and bring it back to you, the racers and fans.
Respectfully,
Jay”
That’s it. There’s not much else to say. A track that saw a ton of improvements made recently, shut down and up for grabs. Anybody want to try their hand at a local eighth-mile venue that occasionally can host drag boats?
If anyone needs me, I’ll be mixing up an old fashioned…
