When we used to cover the National Hot Rod Reunion, and the larger California Hot Rod Reunion, the Cacklefest was as popular as the racing was. With dozens of bitchin Nostalgia Dragsters and Altereds on hand, all sitting and running on the track at the same time, with tons of nitro flames and glowing headers, it was pretty infectious and fun to watch. The crowd would go nuts as these cars sat and cackled on nitro and gave some good throttle wacks. It was the kind of thing that people brought their kids out for so they could experience all the sites, sounds, and smells of top fuel.
So when I saw this cool video of the Lyndwood front engine dragster starting on methanol and then switching over to nitro, with some metal siding to protect the grass from burning, I thought to myself “I would be this guy. Every Saturday, just to make myself smile.”
So watch, enjoy, and let us know what you think.
