(Photos by Kim Fuller) • When hearing of an oncoming weather calamity earlier in the week, at least four inches of rain coming to the Pomona area of Los Angeles, many of us the knew the history of Pomona Raceway, one of the oldest dragstrips on the NHRA roster.
Hell, it even snowed back at the ’78 Winternationals when snow and rain on the dragstrip, postponed racing. A significant downpour for the 2025 World Finals was not looking very positive when the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip was canceled due to persistent and adverse weather early on Sunday.

According to a track worker, there were still heavy duty pumps attempting to drain water from the top end sand trap, out onto Fairplex Avenue at noon on Sunday with more rain on the way. After an exhaustive effort from the NHRA Safety Safari and following close consultation with safety officials, race teams, drivers and sponsors during the weekend, NHRA officials made the decision to pull the plug on the Mission Foods Drag Racing Series for this year.

Sadly, without a pass down the dragstrip, the rest of the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series world champions would be determined by the current points standings on Sunday, as Austin Prock (Funny Car), Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) and Richard Gadson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) picked up championships. It’s the second straight world title for Prock, while Glenn and Gadson earned their first world titles.

Doug Kalitta had earned his second career Top Fuel world championship on Saturday with qualifying terminated. The Kalitta championship is the sixth for team owner Connie Kalitta and Kalitta Motorsports, and its fourth in Top Fuel. Scott Kalitta won back-to-back Top Fuel crowns in 1994 and ’95 to precede his cousin Doug’s two titles.

Sportsman racing was completed on Thursday, starting early in the day with Eliminations to determine Event and the World Champions.
So, with little fanfare, the 2025 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series is complete.
