What we have here is a battle of European Luxury. On the one hand, Germany’s flagship brand Mercedes in the form of a 1972 220D 4-door sedan that is a one owner car. On the other hand, Britain’s Luxury Sports brand, Jaguar’s famed 1972 XJ6 which has already had a V8 swap done on it. We can see either one being an absolute youtube sensation with the right flavor and street racing videos. Can’t you?
But which is better? We often see Jags and wonder if they are V8 cars because the Jags that Run guys made kits to do the swaps decades ago and a lot are actually out there. So does the fact that seeing one isn’t ground breaking make it any less of a street sleeper? Or does the Mercedes own this one because it is clearly the grandma car that nobody would suspect? And especially with a turbo motor and muffler so it was really quiet and nondescript. Hell, we might even fashion an exhaust oil delivery device to keep up the charade with some diesel looking exhaust smoke.
So which would you rather have and what would you do to them?
Here is all the info on the Mercedes:
1972 Mercedes 220D barn find, 1 owner car, needs wiring work done or wiring kit the rabbits have chewed up the wiring, tires are dry rotted but hold air some are orig from dealer, needs headliner and mabe carpet but I have orig, interior is good for its age and would have been better if 3 windows weren’t broken. antifreeze still in radiator. oil is good but dirty. was missing grill and 1 door handle but I purchased 2 grills and the handle, for 350 one is on now. trunk is great and all orig. paint is still shinny but needs a buffing.
Car was put away due to the man’s old age, he was forced to stop driving and was declared blind after lightly rear ended someone then himself being rear ended in slow traffic, he hit the windshield. He retired as a contractor in the 80s, so it is a very well kept car till then. It was put away …. For years.. car ran great when it was parked and was frequently started and driven around lot. Now the rabbits have chewed up some of the wiring. See pics .
Also this car is pre smog so it doesn’t need a smog, would make a great project for a motor swap.
It has independent rear suspension. Rear wheel drive, drive shaft can be modified and I can direct to who. also this car can be air bagged Easley for about 1500 dollars.
…….. Text for Info…… Texttttt. Serious buyers only. Classic title in hand with Paperwork to. Original. Dealer pamphlet signed by dealer….. can trade for cash and ???????? if you don’t have enough with mostly cash covering amount. That’s if u don’t have enough.

Here is all the info on the Jag:
I have a 1972 xj6 that has been 350 swapped it runs good. Freshly rebuilt carb. but does need work done to the brakes. interior is very rough straight body with a little rust on trunk lid. Open to trades call or text only. (909) 973-8277
I’d go with the Mercedes. Usually if you see one of those modified, it’s to burn veggie oil.
Why did I guess that the Jaguar had a Chevy motor in it?
Far better to junk that and fit the V8 from an XK8 or for a bit more power go for the supercharged version. Then refresh the interior and leave the rest as it is for a modern take on the well-faded and half rotten Jaguar Mk11 from the excellent Withnail and I.
You need therapy Geordie, too much hate in you.
On the other hand, I like the 220D. It’s seems to be a stripped down model w/o all the power accessories. Widen the stock rims for more rubber on the ground but that about it.
Oh yea it gets a LSX!
Jag is so cool looking and has the right motor in it. Just ditch whatever other British mechanical crap is in it and it could be fun.
If you’re going for sleeper, it HAS to be the diesel Mercedes. You see hopped up Jags all the time, nobody will suspect the Merc, especially if you keep the exhaust quiet, at least at low RPMs.
