Which One Of These Would Make A Better Sleeper? Which Would You Put Horsepower Into?

Which One Of These Would Make A Better Sleeper? Which Would You Put Horsepower Into?

I’m always looking at Craigslist and doing searches for stuff under $1000 just to see what I might find. And sometimes there isn’t a damn thing anyone would care about and sometimes there is gold. Regardless, there are always a couple cars that make me smile as I think of something crazy you could do to them. Well, seeing this Postal Jeep got me thinking, and it was downhill from there as I decided to find three vehicles that could be transformed into great street racing sleepers. Here is what I came up with.

First off, the Postal Jeep. It’s ugly, it’s tall, it’s short, it’s not aerodynamic, it really has nothing going for it in the racing requirements column, but we still think it has some potential. My initial desire would be to lay it on it’s nuts and make it look cool, but for the sleeper vibe I would make sure it had the trademark loaded postal Jeep look with the ass end down just a little bit compared to the front. It would wear plane steel wheels, I’d leave the primer covering the old USPS logos, and I’d keep this thing as quiet as humanly possible. Do it right and this sucker is a grudge and street race money makin’ machine! What would I do for power? Come on…really? Turbo LS of course.  Or, this thing could be great with a Turbo 2.3 Ford too.

Up next is the venerable Ford Crown Vic. This car has been built into a sleeper so many times that hard core hot rodders actually pay attention to them just to make sure they aren’t about to be suckered. That could be an argument for staying away from one of these, or for diving in head first and building one like nobody else has ever done. What do you think? They already hold a mod motor or small block Ford, so we’d go simple and stay with one of those and spray the piss out of it or go the opposite direction and put a big block in it that looks like it came in it. We have a feeling this one could be fun.

What would you do with it?

And now the ugliest A-Body GM platform in history, the 1976 Malibu/El Camino. Uggghhhh. I can’t stand these things, except in wagon form for some reason, so these things just do nothing for me. With that said, they don’t do much for anyone else in the world either and not a single one of them has ever looked fast. So for a sleeper, this could be perfect! It will hold virtually any automotive engine on the planet, and that means the sky is the limit on power. Keep it grandpa looking on the outside and the interior and stuff a ton of power under the hood and it could be greatness. What would you do to this one?

the jeep by far, but NOT any chebby motor. use a injected 4.0 jeep engine. plentiful, cheap, and THEN stick a turbo on it for more fun.
