We aren’t trying to put the owners of this wicked 1967 Chevelle and super-clean Charger on any kind of negative deal. Things happen, oversights get made, or in much simpler terms, shit happens. Not every day can be your day…if you never experienced the bad, how would you know what good actually is? You take your licks and you move on to another day. But one small issue with modern-day technology: if you did this thirty years ago, a couple of buddies would razz you about what you did one day at the strip and that would be that. Now, there’s a very solid chance you’ll end up on YouTube, where the whole world can see what you did. Progress, right?
First up is the Charger. A kitted-out SE model, it sounds the business and looks killer in TX9 black. I’m getting a F.A.S.T. racing vibe with it. But the burnout had a small misfire…the driver forgot to select one of the forward drive gears and instead scuffed up the tires the wrong way before figuring out the fault and fixing themselves. That 12.73 run afterwards is a bit of redemption on their part. Now, the Chevelle, which rolls in with a kinda-ratty, kinda-nostalgic street racer vibe to it. We dig the car, but we’d have to do wheel studs on it…namely because the left-rear popped every last one clean off on the launch, leaving the axle hanging and the driver wondering just what exactly failed.
Just remember, sooner or later your day of fail is coming…

A friend had a late model HEMI Charger, and for some bizarre reason, it would hook better with a reverse burnout. Can’t remember what tires were on it. Strangest thing…
At Byron you must back into the water. Usually a marshall will direct you forward a few feet to prevent the burnout in Reverse. Still, this happens from time to time at the Playground Of Power.
The burnout in reverse is worse. People won’t expect that and won’t be watching. It’s a reflection on a drivers incompetence.

I click high gear in my burn out wait for the bog and roll out. Once every couple years I forget to drop back into low gear before I stage and when I push trans brake and let go of the foot brake……… go for a nice cruise down the track. I’ve got the faulty button line down to an Art.
