A few days ago, we told you about the McLaren P1 GTR, the track-only version of the McLaren P1 hybrid supercar. The 986hp beast is the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1 GTR, the de-tuned race-only version of the F1, the former top-speed record holder that didn’t require four turbos to hit 240 miles an hour. They may be exotics that none of us will ever get near, but if there’s one reason for us to pay attention to McLaren, it’s that they are a company who’s entire business model is based upon making cars that haul copious amounts of ass. Having derived from Bruce McLaren’s racing interests, they have tweaked everything from the Ford Mustang to the McLaren-Mercedes SLR, so they know quite a bit about performance. Watching them take new technologies and turning them into blistering road-going machines is exciting to us, and we can’t wait to see what happens when the P1 GTR gets turned loose in race traffic.
