This Audi Prototype Driver Celebrated His Birthday With Go-Kart Paintball!

Lucas Di Grassi just might become the first Brazilian with an overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Audi and he came up just short of his first series championship in Formula E this year. He’s proven time and again to be a first-rate race car driver in whatever he drives and you would expect a driver like that to spend his birthday racing. That is, in fact, exactly what Di Grassi did, renting out a karting track in his home country for his 32nd birthday for his friends and then arming them (and himself) with paintball guns.

This looks like a total riot and while hitting a moving target from a suspension-less kart looks difficult, Di Grassi and his friends managed a few direct hits, including one directly to a driver’s face shield. Yeah, there’s the whole disclaimer not to try this at home and you’ll probably have a hard time finding a karting facility that would let you do this even for an exorbitant amount of money, but by the time you’re done, we’re pretty sure you’ll be scheming with your idiot best friends how to recreate this.

Sports car racers aren’t as stuffy as you might think, by the way. In addition to Di Grassi’s birthday activity of choice, Porsche factory driver Nick Tandy comes from a background in oval racing in England and absolutely lusts after a chance to drive in NASCAR.
