This is pretty trick, and I have to say, other than crazy lowriders we’ve never seen anyone box the chassis on a GM A-Body. Sure there are aftermarket chassis our there with fully boxed frames, but a kit to do it yourself? Hmmmm.
Given the fact that the GM A-Body (Chevelle, Skylark, Cutlass, etc) is one of the easiest cars to bolt on great suspension to, we can see where big tires and lots of horsepower can really tax the factory chassis. Instead of buying an entirely new chassis, why not strengthen the one you already have? This means you can still use all the stock, or bolt on parts you ever cared about, and don’t need to change the floors or anything in your car.
After all, bolt on suspension kits like those from Ridetech and Hotchkis provide huge improvements in suspension capabilities. Why not box the weak spots with Hellwig’s FX Kit for ’68-’72 A-Bodies and know you’ve got the strength to throw anything at it you want.
Here is what you get.
Hellwig Frame FX Kit for ’68-’72 Chevelle
We all know that one of the most effective (and budget friendly) ways to improve the handling of a Chevelle is to box the frame. The suspension pros at Hellwig are making that process easier with their new Frame FX kit.
The new Frame FX kit is made up 14 pre-cut 10-gauge steel panels that match the thickness of the factory frame and fit into the weak points of the factory chassis. These pieces are a huge time saver when you think about all the time and material it would take you to measure, cut, cut some more and fit to the frame. Plus, their kit is engineered with an extra panel that adds a mount to the body floor to increase the strength even more!
The increased strength that the Frame FX kit provides results in handling and ride quality improvements while retaining the factory chassis and mounting points. If you’re adding a high powered drivetrain and bigger tires, take a look at the Frame FX Kit.
Looking forward to the G-body kit that is supposed to be coming out next.
