Alternate Fox Body Pro-Touring Machine That’s Already On Its Way.

Alternate Fox Body Pro-Touring Machine That’s Already On Its Way.

Looking for a reasonably priced car to get into the Pro Touring movement with? Need a good Christmas gift for the family corner carver? This 1984 Mercury Capri could be just the ticket. It’s a 5.0 liter with a bunch of bolt on suspension mods, a good set of seats, and some other do dads that will get you a good start on going out and having some fun. It’s here in California, passes smog no problem, and is a reliable driver that can be a riot out on the track as is or with some mods could be truly fast. We’d like to tell you a bunch about it but the seller has already done a fantastic job of that so we’re going to let him tell the story.

But not until we say that if it was ours it would get a supercharger, disc brakes, a roll cage, and upgraded shocks, wheels, and tires. After that, it’s game on!

Here is what the seller has to say, and a BUNCH of photos.

1984 Mercury Capri 5.0l V8 302 Fox Body Track Car Build 1

Let’s just start by saying that if you are looking for a fox body Capri (or Mustang GT) already done show car or a stock example you can restore, this is not it. However, if you are looking for an old school 5.0L that is an already in progress track car build that runs well, handles great and stops like a fox body, this just might be for you. I drive this car often and recently drove this car over a 150 miles on some twisty roads in 90+ degree heat and it ran great. Car starts as it should and shifts fine. Passed emissions test on 11/5/2015 – good for 90 days, registered a couple days later so CA registration good for a year! May be interested in a trade but whatever I trade for must be street legal.

Some Quick Details –
1984 Mercury Capri 5.0L with Holley 4 barrel carb. and 5 speed manual transmission. Has 159,xxx miles. Engine was supposedly rebuilt along the way but I have no way to confirm. The car has power windows, power steering, power brakes, heat, but not much else (no A/C). I bought this very recently and the car was being turned into a track car. Upgraded suspension including complete Maximum Motorsports Road & Track box and 8.8 rear end with Trak Lok are already installed. Has a clean, and clear title.

Cons —
Body is all there (no rust) but doesn’t look pretty
Paint is way faded on most of the panels (don’t expect to buff it out but good for a wrap)
Small dings and dents
Lower radiator support looks like it was bent and straightened
Front bumper cover has some cracks
Dash is cracked
Door panels are not in great shape
Headliner is just the card-board backing
All plastic panels are faded and scratched
Exhaust is there and sounds good but cobbled together
Steering column bearing has a touch of play (more annoying than anything else)
Power steering pump whines
