When BangShifter Russell Dirks sent me an email yesterday asking me for my opinion on his Craigslist Ad and pricing on his 1978 Camaro I was happy to help, but when I started reading the ad and comparing prices to what was available here in SoCal, I realized this thing is a really fair deal. Russell is no rookie hot rodder, and built this thing up from basket case to fun driver with all the right parts and pieces. Autocross it, cruise it, hit the strip, whatever you want to do, this car is capable. After reading the ad, I asked Russell some more questions, and here is some of the additional info he gave. Russell told us that when he got the car it was in dire straights mechanically so he focused on R&Ring all the stuff that would keep it from being a reliable and fun daily driver. This included a full Hotchkis Suspension system, all new suspension and steering components, new Poly subframe bushings, wheels, tires, exhaust, new GM crate 350 and all the accessories, upholstery and more. He hasn’t touched the body, because the look has a super bitchin vibe, although he did rebuild all the door hinges so they don’t have the dreaded Second Gen Sag. The car is pretty straight and solid, with just a touch of rust in the rear fender lips. That’s an easy patch that doesn’t require full quarter panels and is pretty standard on one of these cars.
This thing is cool, and we’d drive the piss out of it. Russell is in the same boat as I am right now and is thinning the herd of cars a bit so he can focus on other projects, kids in college, and the like. Make him a real offer. This thing is rad. Pay for the flight from SoCal to Spokane and fuel to wherever you are and I’ll deliver it!
