Rumors fly all the time about the fate of California Speedway in Southern California. While living there, we were regularly at the speedway for autocross racing, drag races, and more. This facility wasn’t as busy as it could have been, but was busier than many realized. With that said, there were always rumors that different parts of the track were scheduled for closure and part of that was because of all the issues they had with noise complaints and such. But when different parking lots on the property started being reconfigured for freight management, and then warehouses were being put up around the facility, people really started talking.
One of the things that caused a lot of confusion though was that the on site go-kart track was expanding and getting fancier and fancier. The other was the RC car racing facility that went in not long before the closure.
But alas, nothing could stop the continued disassembly and then new construction. But it is happening slowly, and rumors still persist that a short track might still be built there. Is it true?
We’re not sure, but we know that the drone footage below is pretty cool and might shed some light on the subject.
Video Description:
Here is a look at the construction and demolition progress of NASCAR’s former Auto Club Speedway. Built in the 90s with its final race in Feb. of 2023, it has now begun a transformation due to much of the land being bought and redevelopment. There is talk of a short track that will be built but nothing yet is in concrete.
