When I saw the first clip of this video, I had to remind myself that these are electric cars. If that isn’t an indicator of how bad ass these things can be, then maybe you should think about how much fun the electric go karts are that you can race all over the country. But back to Nico and the Extreme E team. If you aren’t familiar with Extreme E, it is the new FIA sanctioned off-road series featuring electric “suvs” hauling ass in some serious bitchin locations that likely aren’t places you expect to see racing happening at all. If racing and doing something good for the environment aren’t something you believe can or should go together, then just forget about the part where they are doing good and enjoy the action.
The cars themselves look like something that should be racing in the Dakar Rally, as they sort of make me think of the Schlesser Buggies of old. Both men and women will be racing them, in very remote locations, wheel to wheel all while garnering attention for the part of this venture that is researching ways to make the planet healthier. They are going to leave each race site in better shape than when they arrived and according to Extreme E they will be visiting beaches, rain forests, the arctic, and glaciers.
This could be fun to watch.
