When this Toyota Corolla was new, it was just a little econobox car. There was nothing special about it, and it definitely wouldn’t be described as sexy. Like most economy cars of the mid 1980’s, it was just transportation. But if you fast forward 40 years, these little cars are super popular and cool. If that seems weird to you, consider the fact that many of the cars of the 1960’s that we know and love were just econo boxes or family haulers when new.
But old is cool, so it makes sense that an AE86 Corolla is cool now. Especially when you build it like this one.

I never know what Riko will do with his builds. I’ve always loved his approach to building cars. The passion oozes out with each and every build he produces. This example is a stark contrast from his N2-style AE86 that I featured back in 2019 at SEMA. This time, we’re in Tokyo for the annual Tokyo Auto Salon and his latest AE86 build was an instant hit. I had to stop by and catch up with Riko and the Corolla.
