I consider myself very fortunate to say that I have been around the race track at Road America behind the wheel of a pretty cool hot rod and can tell you that the National Park of Speed is just that. Beauty, intimidation, speed and fun is what this place is all about and for many people it is a total bucket list race track. Surprisingly it is not a hard race track to drive around, although it is a bit scare. Not driving it to the limit, on the other hand, can be a very very scary proposition.
In this video you will see the bumper’s eye view and dash view of Ryan Buck’s bitchin 1963 Chevy II Nova running around the famed course at last weekend’s USCA Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car event and it’s a great way to spend 7 minutes and 46 seconds of your day. I highly recommend it!
Check this out.
For those watching, USCA (Appropriately!) uses only 1/2 the track…. The SLOW half! In addition they use the new-ish chicane originally added to slow motorcycles as they fire into the bend in the track (The Kink) prior to that back straight.
The full tack has you tapped out in top gear three times per lap! Second only to Daytona as far as “you better have this engine screwed together properly”!.
Breaking for the tight turn 5 after the second straight is probably the scariest part. That’s where that Ferrari got balled up in the catch fence earlier this year.
