Restoring a car is full of really fun and cool experiences. Dreaming up your mods, imagining cruising it, and deciding on which parts to use is the fun part. But then the work starts. And when it does it usually involves cleaning up our project just to get a start on it and that means stripping rust, paint, and bondo off of every single surface. It’s an expected part of the process, and there are a lot of ways to handle all these stripping chores, but there are several down sides to some of the most popular choices.
Sandblasting, for example, gets rid of ALL of it, but if the person doing the blasting doesn’t know what they are doing they can ruin good sheetmetal with excess heat and distortion. Soda blasting is much less likely to hurt sheetmetal, but it is wet and therefore potentially corrosion inducing if the project is not immediately prepped for storage and sealing of the metal. And then there is the good old elbow grease method with a DA sander and a boat load of sand paper. It can remove it all, but it to can do more damage than you would think if not done properly.
Enter the Contour SCT, a tool that strips rust, body filler, and old paint and that creates the perfect “tooth” for new primer. Here is the demo from the guys at Eastwood. Check it out.
Beautiful tool , Vacuum port for dust collection would be perfect, I suppose one could be fabbed by cutting a hole in the shield and attaching a hose from a shop-vac . . . Still a Great tool .
