We’ve seen several Smart Cars that have Hyabusa powerplants in them, and every single one of them looks like it would be a riot. But a reader sent me an email yesterday asking me what I thought some of the heavy hitters in the Pro Touring world could do if they had a Hyabusa powered Smart Car under them. The question had me scratching my head as I think about the driving styles of three of my favorite drivers.
Mike Maier is the amazing combo of smooth and brutal, mostly because he knows when you have to be which. Danny Popp has one speed, and that’s all in, which means he would be a riot to watch in one of these little bastards. Brian Hobaugh on the other hand, is the guy that treats an autocross course like a ballet, knowing when to be graceful and when to be strong and powerful.
So would any one of them be worth a crap behind the wheel of one of these little beasts? I think so. What do you think?
