Lawnmower racing is a great way to have a lot of fun on a little budget. The basic lawnmower only has so long to be useful before the wear and tear of mowing down that jungle you unashamedly call a “lawn” takes a toll…after that, you either sink money into repairing it or you just replace it because, face facts, it’ll be cheaper in the long run. That’s not to say that the old mower is completely dead and useless. If the engine starts and the contraption actually still moves, why not race it? The basic premise of any riding mower is that of a go-kart: small engine, basic frame, brakes, and controls.
British riding mowers, however, seem to be a bit different. They look like a mix of a legit go-kart frame hooked to the headtube of a bicycle that controls a motorized version of what you might recognize as an old push mower. At least, that’s the best I can come up with for what I’m seeing. Suspension seems to be limited to just how much cheek you have on your backside and speed seems to be up there in go-kart territory. So why not tear around a grass course with muddy ruts and a few like-minded and mental friends? Compared, our riding mowers actually look rather tame!
