Winton Motor Raceway in Australia has a reputation as one of the country’s more challenging and technical road courses with a number of “You screwed up there? Get out the checkbook.” corners. Maybe none is more daunting than the pair of 90-degree turns that make up the chicane at the end of the start-finish straight. With cars streaming off the starting grid, it gets a tad hectic as everyone tries to fit. This Porsche Carrera Cup race at Winton from last year gets that point across pretty well.

After a relatively clean start, the field of Porsche 911 piles into the first turn. Cars skid and bump and run wide in the first turn clatter, falling into the middle of the pack trying to get through the second chicane. Before the dust settles and a few wounded Cup cars limp off the track, you can practically hear the Porsche dealers Down Under firing up the money-counting machines. While no cars look to have been written off, Porsche bodywork still ain’t cheap.
