Ever since all three were announced for production, everybody around the world wanted to see the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 go head to head, and every time people thought it was a done deal, something happened. Make your call…Ferrari complaining, McLaren saying no, Porsche unavailable, whatever. Nobody has been able to get all three cars together until now. Chris Harris you know from his “Chris Harris on Cars” videos and the work he has done with the /drive network. Marino Franchitti is a pro wheelman who knows his way around a track, and Tiff Needell, who not only has television credit under his belt from TopGear and Fifth Gear, but has been wheeling race cars since 1970. And there the three sit, ready to lay rubber and run each other. All three are hybrid hypercard, and all three go about their business in three different manners. But how do they stack up? You will be left wondering in the end because this isn’t a competition…this is simply a celebration of the cars. Besides, really…would you shut down the chance to drive any of them?
Very enjoyable watch. I’ve never paid much attention to exotics as they are well beyond my financial means, and the only time I usually see coverage of such vehicles is when some moron crashes one or sets it on fire. But this test was enjoyable because the cars were wrung out by professional drivers who just beat the piss out of them,,and any hot rodder can appreciate the noise they make. Do I get to make a fantasy choice? Then it’s the McLaren thank you.
