This Class Alfa Romeo 155 DTM Car Revs to 12,000 RPM and Is a Proper Italian Work of Art

While the cars that run in the modern German DTM series are pretty cool, we’re not sure if they’ll ever be as cool as the Mercedes 190 vs. BMW E30 days of the 1980s. Even less likely, however, is that anything in modern DTM is quite as cool and insane as the Alfa Romeo 155s that raced DTM in the 1990s. Alfa has always been known for making sonorous engines and even making V6s that sound incredible, which is no small feat. The 2.5-liter V6 in this beast is naturally aspirated and makes almost 500 horsepower. That’s not a misprint; the six-pot revs to 12,000 RPM.

This video, as do all of the other ones onYouTube Channel 19Bozzy92, captures that ferocious sound wonderfully. However, you also get a great close-up look at the car and its inner workings. Under the skin sits a whole bunch of carbon fiber and the engine sports individual throttle bodies that is done in typically grand Italian style. The view into the trunk of the pushrod suspension and transaxle is particularly impressive. Enjoy seven minutes with this legend, which won the DTM championship in 1993.
