Classic YouTube: A Brutal Street Stock Flip At Thunderhill Raceway In Tennessee

Ah, Street Stock…where many a 1970s and 1980s car have gone to live the life that fits somewhere between that of a NASCAR stocker and a gladiator. It’s budget racing if you want to get your thrill, and if you’re a young gun it’s probably one of the best starts to the sport you can have. But if you think for a second that you can’t wreck like the professionals do at Talladega, you are sorely mistaken, my friend. Impacts, rollovers and other such fun is part of the equation, but I want you to pay attention to #8 in this field. An early G-body of some sort, #8’s day is about to be screwed up by #70, a Colonnade A-body. On the second lap, #70 taps #8 in the rear, which both popped the G-body’s rear up into the air and started to turn the back end out at the same time before landing. Once the car returned to earth, the rear axle found that a dig-in impact at speed was too much and both wheels vacated the car in a violent enough manner that the car went for one hell of a roll. The driver was unharmed but we’re sure that they were rattled for a minute as they were sitting on the back stretch wondering just what in the hell happened…
