Classic YouTube: “Autocrossing” At Alveringem – Small Cars, Muddy Field, Big-Time Fun!

Doing muddy laps in a farmer’s field sounds less like an actual race and more like something I may or may not be guilty of doing in some beater car, but apparently in Europe it is perfectly acceptable. This is Alveringem, Belgium, and it’s the furthest stretch of “autocrossing” we’ve ever seen. Forget cones and parking lots, you won’t need them. Instead look to cars like this psychotic little Mini and a gutted Honda Prelude and prepare for battle in the soft soil. And we do mean battle: early on, what appears to be an E30 BMW goes barrel-rolling during a heat, and the Honda and Mini are pretty well matched, with the Mini down on power but the Honda struggling in the corners, together they make for some exciting racing. Low-buck with a high level of intensity and fun, this looks like a riot and would have our attention all afternoon long! It might just be driving in a circle, but we’d take this over NASCAR each and every time.
