Cool Or Not? Rebodied Challenger Hellcat Becomes A 1968 Dodge Charger. It’s Clean, And Took A Lot Of Work, But Do You Approve?

Cool Or Not? Rebodied Challenger Hellcat Becomes A 1968 Dodge Charger. It’s Clean, And Took A Lot Of Work, But Do You Approve?

(Words by Scott Liggett) While sipping our morning caffeine, we came across the daily notification from Bring A Trailer. One of the auctions that came up yesterday was this heavily modified 2023 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak. The company that did the work was Exomod who bills themselves as building “old school muscle on modern tech”. In short, they rebodied this Hellcat to look like a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T.

Refitting old muscle car looks on modern muscle cars is nothing new. It’s been going on for decades. We have seen some that were went from done pretty good to total disasters. We have seen C4 Corvettes try to be shoebox Fords to late model Camaros camouflaged as 1970 Chevelles. Perusing Exomod’s website showed they specialized in turning late model Challengers into 68-70 Dodge Chargers, and even into a 69 Dodge Daytona. They have cars at Barrett-Jackson’s auction this weekend, including the aforementioned Daytona.
The problem in doing of these builds is the difference in wheelbase, track width, A pillar shape and angle, door locations, etc, etc. So, trying to get the proportions close enough that car the doesn’t look absolutely ridiculous after grafting on the old muscle looking panels is extremely difficult. Not many have any kind of success, in our opinion.
We have to say Exomod’s work is way better than most in this type of custom car building. At the time of writing this blog, the bidding was already at $200,000 with another 5 days left in the auction. So, obviously, these do have a strong following.
Our question to our readers is this: Would you pay this kind of money for a rebodied 2023 Challenger Hellcat, or similar money for an actual 1968 Charger that has been restomodded with a Hellcat engine and modern suspension?

I like it! Back end is a little “fat”, but other than that, a very good job. Would definitely get some looks and would run to match!
