The classic races at Goodwood are awesome in the proper sense of the word. Watching Ford Cortinas and Mini Coopers mix it up with Camaros, Mustangs and other V8 American cars on the course is like watching David and Goliath over and over. There’s enough straightaways for the V8s to really pull, and enough corners that the light, nimble smaller cars can come right back and get into the fight. The Gerry Marshall Trophy race makes for some excellent viewing, whether you’re a car buff or just want to see some damn good racing. These guys don’t take it easy on the classics one bit…you’ll see flames leaping out of the sidepipes as a Mini figures out just how far up the tach an engine can really spin on a downshift.
In this case, this isn’t a racer behind the wheel. This is the host of HistoricRacingHD, and he was taking part in what can best be described as a “corporate event”…in short, he got a shot to be behind the wheel of this 302/automatic Ford Falcon with a driving instructor sitting shotgun, talking him through how to properly navigate the course. They were cars before they were classics, and it’s good to know that a Falcon is still playing on a road course somewhere in more-or-less street-worthy condition!
