Ferrari’s Nightmare Was Ford’s GT40 And Here’s An Awesome Goodwood Race Featuring Nothing But GT40s Competing For The Whitsun Trophy

The Ford vs Ferrari rivalry was legendary, hence the movies that have been made about it. This rivalry is arguably even bigger in the vintage racing world, but never have we seen this many GT40s in one place. I mean we’re used to seeing a group of them racing with Ferraris and other vintage racers from different classes during the time period. But what if you could watch a complete race that featured nothing but GT40s? And what if they were racing door handle to door handle? The Whitsun Trophy is awarded to the winner of the 15 lap race that features the fastest cars of the Goodwood Revival.

These are the heavy hitters, and in this Whitsun Trophy race it is all about the GT40. That’s right, nothing but GT40s, racing for the big trophy for 15 laps!

Video Description:

The Ford GT40 is one of the all-time great racing cars. A Le Mans legend that won in four consecutive years from 1966 to 1969. For many a petrolhead and racing enthusiast, seeing a GT40 in action is the stuff of dreams. Luckily at Goodwood, we regularly see them being driven like they should, but back in 2013, something very special happened. We’ve had a root around in the archive and found the 2013 Whitsun Trophy full race. A race that only had Ford GT40s.

If you were there, we’ve got no doubts that it still lives strong in your memory. It’s certainly a day we’ll never forget. Other than the GT40, if you could have one dream race made up of just one car, what would it be?
