Formula E Announces Plan to Race in Brooklyn Against Manhattan Backdrop

The FIA’s all-electric racing series, F0rmula E, has become an interesting anomaly in the motorsports world. While the cars aren’t particularly fast and the noise of the electric motors seems to drive people insane, the series has accomplished what few others have in just two short seasons. Because a lot of manufacturers see battery technology as the future for production, the series has drawn support from carmakers like Renault, Audi, Jaguar, and more. Perhaps more interestingly, the one-day events and low noise threshold have allowed Formula E to visit major city centers and you can now add Brooklyn to that list.

The New York City replaces the London date at Battersea Park that has closed the final two years, but the upcoming 2016-2017 season also adds Hong Kong to a schedule full of major city centers like Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Monaco, and more. The temporary 1.21-mile street circuit will traverse Red Hook, Brooklyn, next to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. That theoretically gives a backdrop that includes Liberty Island and Lower Manhattan. The FIA still must homologate the track, but it would be the first FIA-sanctioned open-wheel race in New York’s five burroughs.

Any race in a major city like New York faces many obstacles and this event likely hasn’t seen the last of them. So what do you think: Will this race actually come to fruition and is Brooklyn the right place for it?

These poor excuses for racing cars should have their race at the bottom of the Hudson River for all I care! I’ve seen five minutes of a Formula E race and ended up concussed when I fell out of my chair due to mind numbing boredom – so you see any form of electric car is a major health threat……

Horrid series, another series is talking of racing electric cars by remote control. I would rather watch paint dry than these things or just get out my old AFX set for more entertainment than this

I used to live in Spanish Harlem. The wheels on these would get stolen by the third corner, and you’d see them drive by on a Civic by lunch.

Yuck! Finally some new racing in NY and it’s this! F#ck ! The only racing that should be going on in Brooklyn should be on Fountain ave.or Connecting highway. I hate this new cheesy hipster crap! Go away! Ugh!
