Friday Excuse To Go Home Early And Drink, Part 2: The “Soul Of The EVO” Will Become An SUV

Friday Excuse To Go Home Early And Drink, Part 2: The “Soul Of The EVO” Will Become An SUV

It’s been a given that the Mistubishi EVO’s days are dwindling fast, which is a damn shame for the psychotic rally rocket crowd, as it made a great competitor to Subarus. It always sucks to know a good performance car is going away, but Mitsubishi has been focused on other cars these days-like the miserable little Mirage hatchback, for starters.

However, word from Mitsubishi says that an upcoming vehicle will replace the EVO in spirit. Not that replacing the EVO with an SUV is a great idea, but hey, if it’s all-wheel-drive and badass, we could warm up to it. The Mitsubishi Pajero, better known in the U.S. as the Mitsubishi Montero, has had plenty of rally victories under it’s belt. So, what’s the new Evo Plus Size have in store for us?

Well, it will still have all-wheel-drive, but it will be a full-EV vehicle. Before you completely write Mistubishi off of the page, a lot of the technology is coming from the MiEV Evolution III that set records at Pikes Peak.

Quoting Autoblog, “What’s more, Mitsubishi reps hint that the hi-po EV goodness will spread across the rest of its line, where possible and appropriate, and that means Mitsubishi-loving driving enthusiasts may actually have something to look forward to.” We sincerely hope so, because selling the public on an all-electric all-wheel-drive SUV is going to be one hell of a pitch. If you want to interest us by using the words Mistubishi, electric car, and performance, may I offer two suggestions: Mitsubishi Lancer EVO series and Mitsubishi GTO. If the company can make one of those that has range at least equal to a Tesla Model S, we can talk. Until then, get them while you can, because after 2015, Mitsubishi is killing them off. Somwhere, Tommi Mäkinen, the man who brought home four WRC championships to Mistubishi in EVO’s, just cringed a little inside.

Yeah, but the Evo X was not a very good Evo. Mitsubishi replacing the durable (for a Mitsubishi, anyways), powerhouse 4G63 motor with the short-fused, low-power 4B11-T was a huge misstep and the transmissions

Mitsubishi’s sales and finances have been in dire straits lately (with only a 20% return customer rate), so getting rid of the 1 decent vehicle in their lineup will probably be the end of Mitsubishi

They should have went the way of the dodo long ago to be honest. An unreliable Japanese car is just not sale-able. I mean that’s the best thing about Japanese cars they are economical, reliable transport that won’t offend anyone with their “style”…Mitsubishi fails on all accounts.

Mitsubishi made an Pajero Evo in the late 90’s because of the Paris – Dakar Rally.

Short wheelbase, big arches, up-rated suspension and tuned 3.5L, 24 valve V6.

    Now largely forgotten.

I love how people are always bashing the 4B11T because they are a huge 4g63 fan. The motor IS reliable. and even if it isn’t as reliable as the 4g63, it is still more reliable than any Subaru motor. Well, I do not know about the Subaru 2.2 N/A since they are highly reliable but comparing WRX to Evolution, Mitsubishi wins by far.

Mitsubishi has been on the top of the chart when it comes to drivetrain technology but like any other manufacturer, it will always have an issue. I am happy Mitsubishi is going with a new design for the future. Besides, Mitsubishi is huge when it comes to their Industrial products.

Now, if they could only find better quality interior parts.
